The protagonist Sreenivasan does not set out to become a film director.Yet life thrusts him in this direction. This rather unexpected journey uncovers the hidden artist and dreamer within him.

As the novel unfolds, we get to meet both the genius who becomes a runaway success overnight as well as the eccentric. Filmdom is a world of fantasy, much removed from the starkness of an insane world. His forays into the mundane world are classic examples of postmodernism as they are absurd and comic.

The novel also explores his encounters with the women who are drawn to him. His artistry and eccentricity are the qualities that draw women to him, but it is these very same qualities that become the bane that mars his relationships, as the women in his life seek to divest him of his artistry and force him into the mould of a common man.

The novel throws light on the stark, brutal side of show business; it is also delightfully comical.
